For many interns at the Presidential Precinct, the experience is more than just a summer role — it’s a turning point. For Assa Sacko, her time as a Summer Associate during the 2025 Mandela Washington Fellowship became a defining chapter that clarified her passions, reshaped her understanding of leadership, and deepened her commitment to service. Through moments both ordinary and profound, Assa came to see leadership not as a title, but as a practice rooted in empathy, connection, and the willingness to engage with complex situations.

At the close of the 2025 Judicial Fellowship Program in Charlottesville, Virginia, Chief Justice S. Bernard Goodwyn of the Supreme Court of Virginia delivered a remarkable keynote address, offering reflections on the enduring responsibility shared by judges around the world.

It’s the beginning of peak season at the Presidential Precinct, with programs and new partnerships in full swing. My team and I have been reviewing hundreds of applications for two upcoming programs. While reaching out to partners for support in this process, I was once again reminded that the work we do is only made possible through healthy communities and ethical leadership. Behind every successful initiative and meaningful gathering is a host of people and organizations who share in the Presidential Precinct’s vision, mission, and values.
