A Legacy of the Global Pathfinder Summit

Throughout the 2019 calendar year, the State of Virginia continues to celebrate 400 years of representative democracy in the United States through the 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution. In late May, the Presidential Precinct’s partnership with American Evolution birthed the Global Pathfinder Summit (GPS), a weeklong forum built to equip a generation of emerging leaders with the perspectives, strategies, and tools necessary to create sustainable change.

In the building of the Global Pathfinder Summit, it was important to facilitate more than just one week of leadership development and global networking. As with any program hosted at the Presidential Precinct, we set out to ensure a legacy that could continue to benefit program participants and inspire a greater community of aspiring young leaders around the world.

Enter “The Virginia Resolutions“. Nearly 150 participants from over 50 countries in the Global Pathfinder Summit spent time throughout the Summit contributing to this central document – a call to action on the world’s most pressing challenges. The Resolutions worked to answer:

  • How does putting local challenges into global perspective help strengthen our understanding of issues
  • Where are leadership gaps and what leadership qualities are required to address these challenges?
  • How can sharing of experiences build networks across diverse country contexts contribute to our ability to effectively address these challenges?

Following the Summit, two participants from GPS were selected to present a summary report of their collective work to local, state, and national leaders taking part in the Forum on the Future of Representative Democracy, hosted by American Evolution with our partner institution, William and Mary.

Watch below as GPS participants offer an inspiring case for the future of representative democracy worldwide:
