Presidential Precinct Announces Young Leader Award

The Presidential Precinct has announced the creation of a new award to honor the current and expected future contributions of a young, emerging leader to their country or community’s economic, social, political, or cultural development. The award will simultaneously call attention to the importance of providing opportunities for professional development, networking, and collaboration for the next generation of leaders who have the motivation and capacity to create positive change at the local, national, and global level.

The winner of the inaugural Young Leader Award will be announced in the spring of 2016, and the honoree will be invited to Charlottesville, Virginia to accept the Award in person. The Award will be presented concurrently with the University of Virginia’s Edward R. Stettinius, Jr. Prize for Global Leadership, which recognizes a distinguished individual whose life and career exemplifies remarkable public and private and sector leadership, robust global engagement, and a deep commitment to higher education.

Selection Criteria

The awardee must:

• Be an alumni of a Presidential Precinct-sponsored program, from any country.
• Be under the age of 40 at the time of the award.
• Be making outstanding contributions at the national or local level to their country or community’s economic, social, political, or cultural development. The awardee can be engaged in any number of substantive sectors, including but not limited to law and human rights, journalism and communications, civil society development, the arts, urban and rural development and empowerment, business and entrepreneurship support, public health, government and politics, and academia.
• Be committed to continuing to advance the public good throughout her/his career, and have clear potential to make significant contributions in the future.

Selection Process

The Chair of the Presidential Precinct’s Board of Directors will convene a committee to create a list of potential nominees and select the Young Leader Award recipient.
