Financial Literacy Program Empowering Vulnerable Youth in Tanzania
Anganile Thomson is a television personality and Media Council of Tanzania award winning journalist in Dar Es Salaam. He is a 2015 alumnus of the Mandela Washington Fellowship at the Presidential Precinct.
Recently, Anganile announced his latest television venture titled “Akili Ya Pesa” – Financial Literacy for Tanzanian Youth. A three month mini-series, the program will show three times a week on the Tanzanian Broadcast Company channel in 30 minute episodes. Twenty young entrepreneurs across the nation will compete for a grand prize of $3,000 USD that will boost their business operations after undergoing weeks of training and mentorship on several entrepreneurial skills i.e., personal branding, marketing, or pricing.
Individual episodes will feature interviews with business owners that help uncover barriers faced and analyze each business’s primary audience. Support from the University of Dar es Salaam Business School will supply much of the educational content for participating entrepreneurs and viewers alike.

In full, objectives of the show will include:
– Empowering vulnerable youth to be economically stable and independent
– Rescuing young girls from illicit trades
– Equipping young people with business planning and management skills
– Improving the perception of entrepreneurship as a full-time career option
– Propelling leadership development for young people
Anganile is announcing this project at a critical time where youth in Tanzania are struggling to find job opportunities, even after their graduation from higher education. A recent article in The Citizen, Tanzania’s largest English language newspaper, cited annual reports from the World Bank in claiming that just over 5% of Tanzanian youth entering the job market each year are able to secure employment.
