Working to Promote and Sustain Volunteerism Globally

A recent International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) highlighted the strength of partnership among Charlottesville-area nonprofits. 17 visiting leaders from 17 countries joined the Presidential Precinct from May 11 – 14 to discuss and learn from case studies around “Volunteerism and Civic Action”.

Visitors toured the Center at Belvedere to learn more about their
volunteer recruitment and training processes.

This was a truly multi-regional group – representing civil society in countries such as Bahrain, France, New Zealand, and Peru. Community nonprofit perspectives were equally diverse, with presenters working in geriatric care, app and software development, literacy and food security, and the arts. Everyone in the room was united by the common challenge of attracting, training, and keeping committed volunteers to support their work.

Along with classroom discussions, visiting leaders spent part of their weekend exploring Charlottesville’s downtown pedestrian mall and visiting Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

We extend a special “thank you” to the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, University of Virginia Advancement, the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection, the Virginia Film Festival, the Fralin Museum of Art, the Center at Belvedere, the Chris Long Foundation, and WillowTree Apps for their invaluable contributions to this IVLP program!
