Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2023
“The changes I hope to implement through my work are those of a society more committed to the issue of violence in general and especially that of violence against women.”
Viviane Tathi Yende has more than six years of experience in women’s rights activism. Viviane is executive coordinator at Association Sourires de Femmes, an organization that provides emergency services to women and girls who are victims of violence, especially those living in rural areas. She has worked on projects dealing with the rights of women sex workers and young women and girls living in rural areas. Viviane holds a bachelor’s degree in law. She is committed to her work because she is aware from professional experience and her own history how difficult it can be for victims from poor social backgrounds to find help and obtain justice. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, she plans to set up a shelter for abused women and girls and be a strong advocate for the rights of women and girls in Cameroon.
