Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2021

Sherbanu Hussein Mussa has worked as an advocate and a corporate lawyer for four years and has been a human rights defender and activist for more than two years. Sherbanu is the founder of Golden Women Initiative, a women-led organization that works on LBTI rights and legal support and on women and young girls’ empowerment. He fights against discrimination, gender inequality, and gender-based violence; offers support to women and girls affected by rape; and advocates for sexual health rights and human rights for women and girls in her community. He holds a postgraduate diploma in Laws from The Law School of Tanzania. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Sherbanu plans on furthering his work as a human rights defender and activist and hopes to raise funds to buy bicycles for girls in rural areas who lack the means to reach school.
