Reem Ahmed holds a master’s degree in Gender, Development and Peace studies from Ahfad University for Women in Sudan, and a post certificate course in Project Management from the Project Mangement Institute. Reem has five years of experience in various fields of human rights issues and managing multiple initiatives, including those related to women and girls´ empowerment. While working as a national consultant for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women- Sudan), Reem established a network for young women´s leadership and empowerment in the Red Sea state of Sudan. Previously, Reem worked as a human rights officer in the Sudanese Human Rights Initiative, where she has actively worked towards the promotion and protection of human rights, including the rights of women and girls, minorities, freedom of expression, and freedom of religion with a particular focus on the most vulnerable groups in Sudan. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Reem will continue with her passion for human rights and gender equality through initiating and implementing projects that focus on improving civil, political, economic, and cultural rights in Sudan.
