Rebaone Mmereki has more than five years’ experience in the legal arena, both domestically and internationally. Rebaone is currently an Assistant Protection Officer for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Botswana, where he focuses on advocacy for refugee and asylum seekers’ welfare by ensuring adherence by government to its obligations in both international and domestic law. He is also a founding member of a youth organization addressing voter apathy, the Organisation For Youth and Elections in Botswana (OYEBO). Rebaone holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. Upon completion of the Washington Fellowship, Rebaone plans to work in educating youth, and sensitizing young women and the disabled to the importance of voting, along with further encouraging and empowering them to take part in the politics of Botswana so that they shape their country’s future.
