Orengo Juma is a human rights defender at the Social Justice Movement, a consortium of 46 social justice centers. Orengo has 10 years of experience in community service and volunteerism. He defends human rights and social justice and supports the campaign against police brutality and extrajudicial executions. He works to hold the state accountable and promote good governance and service delivery, especially socioeconomic rights such as rights to water and adequate housing. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Orengo plans to teach young people about civic engagement, servant leadership, women’s rights and gender rights, the need to combat climate change, and the consolidation of patriotism through cultural and sporting activities.
