Nerima Akinyi Were has extensive experience in legal research having worked at the Constitutional Court and the Land Claims Court in South Africa. In 2014, she became a pro-bono lawyer at KELIN. She later became the program officer and program manager for the sexual and reproductive health and rights section of the organization. Nerima has worked on women’s human rights for a number of years with a focus on the health rights of women and barriers to accessing services for women. She is passionate about her work with adolescent girls and young women, who are more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, sexual violence, and violation of their reproductive rights due to societal structures. She is also passionate about academia, working as a tutorial fellow at the University of Nairobi, where she will pursue her Ph.D.
