Mwandida (Mwandie) Theu has more than seven years of experience in human rights and governance. Mwandida is currently a program coordinator for Human Rights and Civil Society Strengthening at Youth and Society (YAS), where she works to promote and protect human rights and democratic governance in Malawi. In addition to her leadership at YAS, she serves as a commissioner for the Malawi Peace and Unity Commission. Mwandida also serves as the board chair of the Mzuzu Youth Association (MYA), a coalition of youth-led and youth-focused organizations in Mzuzu. She has previously served on the board of directors of Malawi’s National Youth Council (NYCOM). Mwandida previously worked for the Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN), the Church and Society Programme (CSP), and the University of Livingston. She is a certified digital security trainer. Mwandida earned a bachelor’s degree in human rights and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in transformative community development. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Mwandida intends to establish a well-informed, functional, and effective youth movement at the local and national levels to advance the youth agenda.
