Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2019

Marvelous Nhamo has more than four years of volunteering experience in local governance, with a focus on community development. Marvelous is currently working with his organization ACT in Communities to educate neighborhoods on how to participate in governance. Specifically, Marvelous demonstrates how communities can hold local authorities accountable after   Cyclone Idai. Marvelous also works with the Chimanimani Rural District Council as a voluntary assistant for community and social services. He holds a Master of Public Administration in Local Government Management from the University of Botswana. Marvelous believes that engaged and knowledgeable communities are more resilient. He hopes to one day see a vibrant local governance system in Zimbabwe with active citizens consciously involved in building their communities. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Marvelous intends to continue his advocacy work. As a survivor of Cyclone Idai, he intends to expand the work of ACT by creating recovery spaces to mitigate post-disaster issues for women and youth in Chimanimani.
