Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2016

“If we can embrace every person - that’s the best way to live. … Together, we can do great things.”

Landilani Banda is a lecturer at the University of Zambia and a human rights activist. He has a degree in Law and a Masters in Human Rights Law and HIV in Africa. He works mainly in the areas of disability rights, LGBTQ issues and constitutional governance. The work involves advocacy for legislative and policy reform with key decisions makers in Zambia. He hopes for a future as head of the National Human Rights Commission, making certain that national decisions are made using a human rights-based approach. He hopes that his fellowship with the Mandela Washington program will equip him with the necessary leadership tools to be an effective and pragmatic leader, tools he can put to use when working with Zambian leaders and policy makers.
