Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2017

“The Mandela Fellowship, for me, is a dream come true.”

Kyapalushi Kapatamoyo has over thirteen years’ experience working with civil society organizations and has served in various capacities with NGOs that are mainly focused on poverty reduction, advocacy, governance and HIV/AIDS. In August 2016, she was elected as Councillor for Tumvwanganai ward, under the Solwezi Municipal Council in the North Western province of Zambia as the only female in the municipality and also serves as Chairperson for the Planning, Works and Real Estates Committee. She is the provincial representative on the National Steering Committee for the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders Initiative on Community Action on HIV/AIDS at Local Level (AMICAALL). She holds a diploma in Social Work from Mulungushi University. Her passion is to speak for the voiceless in her community while at the same time building the capacity for leadership through training and mentoring program for young women and youth in markets, churches, and schools. She has chosen to participate in the Civic Leadership Track, where she hopes to enhance her leadership skills and capacities to effectively execute the mentorship program. After the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she hopes reach more young women and youth in her ward through this mentorship program.
