Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative - Fall 2016
Juan Luis Laínez Mejia is completing his last year of medical school at the National Autonomous University of Honduras. He currently works on various medical research projects while participating in a university teacher-training program. He coordinates over 200 medical students completing their social service graduation requirements in communities throughout Honduras. Juan Luis founded a social enterprise called Voy por Honduras, whose mission is to organize groups of young professionals committed to making social change through creating volunteer opportunities for their peers and helping promote social work in underserved communities. The groups strive to create a culture of community service in order to build a more dignified and equitable society. Juan Luis believes the dreams of these young professionals are achievable and a good leader has the responsibility to help others turn their dreams into realities.
