Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2017
“This is the best platform for us to engage in meaningful and productive discussion about the future of our continent.”
Jeannine Ella A. Abatan is a Researcher at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in Dakar, Senegal. She holds a Master’s degree in Security Studies from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She believes everyone has a right to live in a safe environment, which was the foundation of her desire to undertake research that has a social impact.
She currently coordinates a project on women and violent extremism in Mali and Niger. She is convinced that by working on this security challenge she will contribute to a better understanding of evidence-based policies that counter engagement, encourage disengagement and prevent the re-engagement of young people in violent extremist groups.
