Hewan Goitom Berhane is an architect focused on conservation of cultural heritage sites. She has Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Master’s degree in Urban and architectural heritage Conservation from prestigious institutions in Ethiopia. She worked in different aspects of heritage conservation alongside her graduate studies. She wrote handful of research and conservation proposals as part of her graduate study. This has prepared her to serenely understand context, history, and discover the potential of heritage as foundation for diverse inclusive future. Hewan is a 2019 Mandela Washington Fellow who Co-founded Heritage Conservation Associates offering consultancy service for heritage and tourism development projects; through protection policy advocacy and promotion of cultural sites. She aspires to contribute her work on cultural heritage protection, adaptive re-use and authentic conservation directly contributing to sustainable development.
