Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2022

Eyerusalem Belay has more than four years of experience in social research and the Ethiopian legal sphere. Currently, Eyerusalem is serving as a program and research officer at the Civil Society Resource Center, an Ethiopian civic initiative that aims to rebuild the local civic space and support emerging civic actors. Eyerusalem has diverse experience working as a researcher on gender and religion, human rights abuses, and disability rights. In addition, she has legal aid and program experience working in local organizations including the Center for the Advancement of Rights and Democracy, the Danish Refugee Council, Addis Ababa University Center for Human Rights, and the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association. She also freelances as a contributing author on the Woke Lawyer. Eyerusalem holds a Master of Law in International Human Rights Law from the Addis Ababa University School of Law. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Eyerusalem plans to return to Ethiopia and continue her work in the civic space, particularly focusing on using research and grassroots ingenuity for social impact.
