Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2016

“Opportunities are everywhere. With every problem is actually an opportunity.”

Carol Mburugu has seven years’ experience in constitutional and human rights legal practice. Currently, Carol is a trial lawyer at Kenya Revenue Authority, where she focuses on ensuring the Public Body, while discharging its mandate, adheres to fair administrative action, national values, and principles of governance as provided in the Kenyan Constitution. Carol is a board member of a school in her home county, Meru. The school targets children from poor and single-parent families, particularly the market women’s children, and strives to offer them quality education and mentorship. Carol holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Nairobi and is furthering her studies on balancing competing rights. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Carol plans to continue her work in constitutional legal practice as well as steer the education and mentorship program for the young children at the village-based school.
