Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2022
Bright Chimedza is a political scientist and a human rights defender based in Zimbabwe. He has four years of experience in areas such as human rights advocacy, peacebuilding, disability advocacy, and women’s rights. Currently, he is engaged with the Zimbabwe Peace Project, a non-profit organization that monitors and documents human rights violations and breaches of peace in Zimbabwe. Recently, he helped establish an advocacy hub at which he coordinates 30 civil society organizations that collectively formulate and implement advocacy activities. He is an ardent human rights defender with a keen interest in democratic and electoral processes. Bright holds a master’s degree in Development Studies and several advanced Human Rights certificates, including those accredited by the Centre for Human Rights (University of Pretoria), the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, he intends to continue advocating for the respect, advancement, and promotion of human rights in Zimbabwe.
