Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2017
“The discussion we are having here – the topics, the debates – are a contribution to how we can improve our lives.”
Emery Mudinga has over 10 years of experience in peace building, conflict resolution, community service and research on armed groups’ dynamics in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Emery is currently the Director of Vision Peace and Development (VIPAD), a youth-based non-profit he founded in 2010 and works on economic, political, and cultural youth empowerment.
Emery is a lecturer and holds a Ph.D. in Political Sciences from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve; his research focused on land grabs dynamics and peasants’ resistance in Africa. Emery is politically committed in advocating about youth access to jobs, decision-making positions in the different institutions and stands against the various injustices and discrimination against youth in the political debate.
Upon the completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Emery plans to implement actions that engage the parliament and government in specific reforms for youth empowerment and access to opportunities. Emery believes youth is the key for change.
