Acting President & CEO, The Montpelier Foundation
Ms. Krista L. Costello is the Acting President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Montpelier Foundation, which stewards James Madison’s presidential home, located in central Virginia. She continues to serve as Montpelier’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). She is also a board member of the Montpelier Steeplechase and Equestrian Foundation, bringing her leadership skills and business acumen to further the goal of supporting the historic estate of James Madison.
In her 20 years at Montpelier, Ms. Costello has furthered the organizational mission in a leadership capacity, holding multiple leadership positions, including Director of Annual Giving and Advancement Services. Now, as head of the organization, she oversees all aspects of site operations, staff management, and revenue generation, while developing strategies to raise awareness and support for Montpelier’s preservation and programming. She works closely with the Board of Directors to lead strategic planning and organizational development.
Under her leadership, Montpelier has focused on preserving the legacy of James Madison, educating the public about both his contributions to the U.S. Constitution and the history of slavery at the estate.
