Before and after their time at the Precinct, our alumni hold many positions of influence and work tirelessly through these positions to realize positive change. We celebrate their career accomplishments regularly through LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and email updates – each one contributing to the reach and impact of our Presidential Precinct network.

We are pleased to amplify that Asmaa James, 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumna, was recently appointed as Deputy Ambassador of Sierra Leone to the Kingdom of Belgium.

Asmaa shared on LinkedIn:

It is a great honor and privilege to have been appointed by His Excellency, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, to the esteemed position of Deputy Ambassador to The Kingdom of Belgium.

I am humbled by this incredible opportunity to serve our nation and to contribute to diplomacy on the global stage. This appointment reinforces my commitment to public service and inspires me to continue striving for excellence in this esteemed role.

I pledge to work closely with our team in Brussels, representing our country with the utmost respect, diligence, and professionalism. I will work tirelessly to maintain and strengthen the bond between our two nations.

I extend my sincere thanks to the members of Parliament for their unanimous approval of my appointment and for their kind recognition of my work over the years.

To my family, friends, and all those who have supported and believed in me, I offer my heartfelt thanks. Your unwavering support has been instrumental, and I am deeply touched by your kind congratulatory messages, prayers, and words of encouragement.

A special thank you to my supporters worldwide and to my amazing colleagues in the media, whose exemplary support has contributed significantly to my personal and professional growth. I look forward to continuing our collaboration.

In a few weeks, I will depart the shores of Sierra Leone with a heart full of pride and gratitude. As I prepare for this important diplomatic mission to Brussels, I carry with me the hope and dedication that will guide my work in representing our nation.

God bless you all.

Asmaa has been busy and no stranger to Presidential Precinct channels since the conclusion of her Fellowship in 2016. Just last year we covered her launch of Rise Radio 96.3FM – a radio station in Sierra Leone with the specific goal of amplifying the voices of women, girls and young people in addressing critical and emerging issues affecting them.

Asmaa Founded Rise Radio 96.3FM in 2023

Asmaa’s role as Deputy Ambassador might look a bit different from being a Radio Host; but in recent conversation, she shared that the two could not be more connected given their mandate to represent community voices, build partnerships, and communicate effectively for broad audiences.

Congratulations, Asmaa – we look forward to seeing your leadership on display and know you will represent Sierra Leone and the Presidential Precinct well.
