Mandela Washington Fellowship - Summer 2022
Gamuchirai Mbetu is a lawyer and social activist with more than seven years’ experience in legal services, financial services, non-governmental organizations, and the public sector. She is the Founder of DareRedu.com, a blog focused on showcasing the stories of young Africans, and she is co-founder of YourSpace Africa Podcast, which is dedicated to discussing career development issues. Other aspects of her career involved the use of tools and the development of questionnaires for workshops, dialogues, and surveys for sexual reproductive health and rights and HIV/AIDS programming. Gamuchirai also has hosted consultative dialogues involving line ministries, traditional leaders, politicians, and grassroots-level communities. She holds a Master of Law, a Bachelor of Law, and a Bachelor of Social Science in Politics and International Studies. She was awarded the Dean of Students Award for leadership at Rhodes University and was the Youth ICASA media focal person representing Zimbabwe. She also is an author, having contributed to Global Pandemics and the Challenge of Peace and Security in Africa: A Focus on COVID-19. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Gamuchirai plans to use the knowledge and skills gained to continue her work in public policy, gender issues, and young people’s development.
