Pretty Arojojoye has ten years of experience working directly with communities in rural areas of Nkomazi in Mpumalanga, focusing on gender based violence and sexual reproductive health and rights for women and girls. As the Founder and Director of Ark of Hope Southern Africa, a non-profit organization that focuses on women’s and girls’ rights, she is responsible for supervising staff and volunteers through monthly case supervision, providing strategic planning to the organization, developing and implementing organizational policy, working with key senior management, fundraising, writing and submitting proposals, authoring organizational reports and meeting with stakeholders. Pretty is also a manager for Tshwane Home of Hope, a shelter that offers residential care and education to disadvantaged girls. She is currently representing Mpumalanga Province at the People’s Health Movement – South Africa (PHM-SA), a global movement for primary health care, where she is part of the steering committee. Pretty has generated innovative methods of advocacy and focus groups and trained 1,500 volunteers across Mpumalanga. She has also provided leadership in advocacy for other community-based organizations including 425 home-based care organizations. She has a Trauma Counseling Certificate from INTEC College, and a Community Based Paralegal Studies and Office Administration Certificate from the Centre of Law and Community Development, University of North-West (Potchefstroom Campus).
