Peter McHugh
Former Chief Executive Officer, My Travel Group, PLC

As an experienced international travel and crisis management executive, Mr. McHugh was appointed Chief Executive of MyTravel Group, plc in October 2002, taking the helm at a critical time when survival of the business was in doubt and confidence in management had been eroded. Over the course of his tenure, Mr. McHugh developed a strategic plan to return the business to financial health over three years, created a disciplined, results-oriented culture, and led the restructuring of the company, including the sale of non-core businesses, and the refinancing of 800 million pounds Sterling in debt. His leadership returned the Group to profitability, identified the need to consolidate the UK tour industry and achieved the agreement to merge with Thomas Cook, thereby creating the third largest leisure travel group in Europe.

Prior to MyTravel, Mr. McHugh was President and COO of Holland America, Westours, which was the top-rated premium cruise line during his tenure. Mr. McHugh was an executive in the airline industry for over twenty years, joining Pan Am airways in 1988 as a part of the senior management team, eventually serving as Chief Operating Officer with responsibility for worldwide operations, 25,000 employees, and an annual budget of four billion. In 1991, Delta bought Pan Am’s European routes, sponsored and then abandoned a plan for reorganization. Mr. McHugh was then asked by the creditors, the Pan Am board, and the Unions to serve as chief Executive to liquidate the Pan Am estate.
Mr. McHugh began his career at Trans World Airlines, over time serving as Vice-President of the International Division, VP Marketing Worldwide, and President of TWA Marketing Services, charged with creating new businesses where he launched the Travel Channel.

Mr. McHugh has a Bachelor of Science from LaSalle College and an MBA from Drexel University, He was in the US Army, serving as 1st Lieutenant, Infantry in Vietnam in 1970.
