From Our Team, With Gratitude
We’re passionate about emerging leaders, open and cross-cultural dialogue, and lifelong networks for professional development. We believe in the power of place and the power of ideas. And we’re proud of our impact as a premier physical and virtual destination for nation-building.

2016 has been marked by immense growth for us, and there is no better time to help the world’s next generation of leaders to succeed at nation-building and cross-border diplomacy.

The Precinct’s impact would not be possible without our network of supporters and investors. Thank you for your ongoing support, and happy holidays from all of us at the Presidential Precinct.

THE GLOBAL LEADERSHIP FORUM
The 2016 Global Leadership Forum brought former U.S. Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, and Editor of Nigeria’s Sunday Punch Newspaper, Toyosi Ogunseye, to Charlottesville. These two joined together with emerging and established leaders from more than 45 countries to explore some of the world’s most pressing challenges. In partnership with the U.S. Department of State, the Forum brought together current State Department-sponsored international exchange participants and alumni, faculty and students from The University of Virginia and William & Mary, and representatives from civil society and the private sector.
THE MANDELA WASHINGTON FELLOWSHIP
In 2014, the Presidential Precinct was one of 20 institutions selected by the Department of State to host the prestigious Mandela Washington Fellowship. The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), which empowers young people through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking. We now look forward to hosting our fourth cohort of the program in Summer 2017.

INTERNATIONAL VISITOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
As a part of the Global Ties U.S. network, the Presidential Precinct serves as a partner with the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). World leaders, ranging from former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to Mexico’s former president Felipe Calderón, developed close ties to the United States through their experience as IVLP participants. Each year, almost 5,000 distinguished international visitors come to the United States through IVLP.
YOUNG LEADERS OF THE AMERICAS INITIATIVE
President Obama’s Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) Professional Fellows Program empowers entrepreneurs and innovative civil society leaders to strengthen their capacity to launch and advance their entrepreneurial ideas and effectively contribute to social and economic development in their communities.
