“This is the best platform for us to engage in meaningful and productive discussion about the future of our continent.” – Ella Abatan

Ella Abatan currently coordinates a project on women and violent extremism in Mali and Niger. She is convinced that by working on this security challenge she will contribute to a better understanding of evidence-based policies that counter engagement, encourage disengagement and prevent the re-engagement of young people in violent extremist groups.

Ella spent 6 weeks at the Presidential Precinct as a Mandela Washington Fellow. The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), which empowers young people through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking.
