Our communities all over the world have approached unprecedented challenges in recent months. COVID-19 is, by the day, changing the ways in which we can co-exist with friends and family, engage as community members, and reach the goals we set for ourselves and our organizations.
As we earnestly address new obstacles in our lives, it becomes more important than ever to connect with one another - to grow and advance together. The chaos of our world now acute, our call to Presidential Precinct Network members to “Improve the World Together” rings with renewed timbre.
We no longer take for granted the opportunity to convene young changemakers from every region of the world for programs here at the Precinct. In the coming months, occasions to shake hands or even bump elbows with visitors will be few. But even as we grow distant from the “Power of Place”, our hope remains steadfast in the “Power of Ideas”.
This hope comes from Presidential Precinct partners, applying their academic expertise and working quickly to make sure that resources are accessible virtually. It comes from new programming on the Presidential Precinct Network, where we have opportunity to engage our Network members in brand new ways. Most resonant, however, is the hope in our alumni’s stories – activating their expertise in topics from effective communications to public health advocacy. In a time when unexpected changes color our every day, the fact that we have much to learn from them – our heroes – remains unchanged.
We're proud to announce a new suite of program offerings and specific learning opportunities available to friends of the Presidential Precinct during this time of crisis. Both here in our newsletter and on the Presidential Precinct Network, we will announce more sessions as they are scheduled. These sessions include:

Campfire Conversations
Panel discussions driven by personal stories on topics that matter to you most. For over 400,000 years, campfires have brought us together to talk about important issues. We’ve used that concept to reinvent the panel discussion into a participatory and personal learning experience. Campfire Conversations feature multiple experts who bring unique and diverse perspectives on important issues facing our world.
Twenty-five years ago in Beijing, China the UN Fourth World Conference on Women set forth a powerful global agenda to achieve women’s equality. While much progress has been made, millions of women and girls around the world still face discrimination, violence, and unequal access to resources. The gender gap in the economic sphere is particularly striking. The World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2020 reveals stubbornly low levels of women in managerial or leadership positions, and women’s wage stagnation, low formal labor force participation, and lower incomes. This conversation will highlight ways that men can serve as visible, vocal champions for women’s advancement in the workforce, with a focus on concrete actions that major global companies can take to achieve gender equality.

While much progress has been made, millions of women and girls around the world still face discrimination, violence, and unequal access to resources. One major obstacle to women’s empowerment is societal norms that dictate who has power and privilege. It is therefore critical to enlist men and boys in changing these norms and acting as visible allies for gender equality. This discussion will explore creative effective ways to engage men and boys in understanding how gender equality is good for society as a whole and the role they can play in promoting equal rights and opportunities for women and girls.

If provided with support, access, and opportunities to launch and grow their ventures, African youth can play a powerful role in driving positive change as we navigate this pandemic and meet important societal needs for the future. During this conversation, participating experts will highlight examples of how young people are changing the face of entrepreneurship in Africa and discuss ways to unlock their potential.
